How do you cope with the demanding aspects of your career?
As a Director of Nursing, I create systems of support, clear priorities, and a healthy leadership culture that benefits both staff and patients. I focus on what I can do and by having a healthy leadership culture with my direct leaders, we all feel comfortable speaking up for support when it is needed and making decisions together.
What aspect of being a nurse leader brings you most joy?
The most rewarding part of my role is seeing the impact my team has on patients and families while helping nurses develop into confident, compassionate leaders. Whether it's mentoring a new leader, removing barriers that make care safer and more efficient, or watching a team accomplish something they once thought impossible, those moments bring me joy and remind me why I chose nursing leadership.
How long have you been a member of MOLN, and do you have a favorite memory from a MOLN event?
I have been a member of MOLN for 15 years. Some of my favorite memories are the opportunities to network with nursing leaders from across the state and learn from their experiences. I also value the time spent with my own team members outside of the day-to-day work environment. These experiences helped strengthen our relationships, foster a deeper understanding of one another, and support the development of sustainable leadership cultures within our organization and beyond.
Who or what has been most influential or inspiring in your nursing leadership journey?
Leadership is ultimately about developing people, fostering strong relationships, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. The most influential aspect of my nursing leadership journey has been the mentors, colleagues, and leaders who invested in my growth along the way. Their willingness to share their experiences, provide honest feedback, and challenge me to think differently helped shape the leader I am today. The importance of mentorship and developing future leaders has become a passion of my own, which is one of the reasons I value my involvement with MOLN. Supporting others as they navigate leadership challenges and celebrating their growth is incredibly rewarding.
