University of Minnesota School of Nursing

University of Minnesota School of Nursing

The University of Minnesota School of Nursing plays a central role in improving health through innovative research, exceptional academic programs and collaborative practice throughout the region. While the need for nurses is great, the need for nursing leaders prepared to make systems decisions based on clinical experience and patient needs is even greater. More nurses, and nurses educated at higher levels, are essential to address the pressing demand and fragmented delivery of health care today.

The school prepares nurse leaders equipped to transform health care from roles at the bedside to the board room through its pre-licensure (BSN and Master of Nursing) and doctoral (DNP and PhD) programs. With 12 unique specialties, the University of Minnesota’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program has the largest full-time DNP enrollment in the country and its PhD in Nursing is the only such program in the state. The school is ranked among the top 15 nursing graduate schools in the country. Its school’s nursing informatics graduate program is ranked second in the nation, and the nurse-midwifery specialty is ranked fourth in the 2018 US News & World Report’s graduate school ranking.

As part of a premier research institution, School of Nursing faculty are engaged in new discoveries and initiatives with our public, private and community partners. Applied research and student learning are enhanced by collaboration with other health science professions at the University including the schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, public health and nursing.

The Katharine J. Densford International Center for Nursing Leadership, housed at the School of Nursing, serves as a catalyst and resource for nursing leaders.
