How do I cope with the demanding aspects of my career?
I try to spend my time purpose-driven and focused on the work that truly makes a meaningful difference for nurses, nurse leaders, and, of course, the patients we serve. This means being intentional with my time and engaging in ongoing reflection. It might sound counterintuitive, but when I feel overwhelmed, I make a point to round and listen to nurses and nurse leaders. This helps me stay grounded in what matters most and enables me to remain effective and aligned.
What aspect of being a nurse leader brings me the most joy?
Mentoring both nurse leaders and those aspiring to become leaders is a source of immense joy and fulfillment for me. I’ve been fortunate to have so many influential mentors throughout my career who supported and inspired me along the way. Walking alongside colleagues as they build confidence and grow into their professional selves is incredibly rewarding—there’s just nothing quite like it.
Do I have a favorite memory from an MOLN event?
My favorite memories are definitely from the annual conferences, especially listening to fantastic speakers like Cy Wakeman and Rose Sherman (among others!), and connecting with this wonderful community.
Who or what has been most influential or inspiring in my nursing leadership journey?
I am passionate about lifelong learning and grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to further my education throughout my nursing career. Ongoing education has been influential for me and empowered me with knowledge and skills to be a more effective leader, helped me adapt to the constant changes in healthcare, and inspired me to step into my own power and elevate the profession of nursing. I’m excited to finish my DNP in spring 2027—and while that might be my last degree, we all know that as nurses, the learning never really stops.
