How long have you been with MOLN?

I’ve been part of MOLN for four years, and for the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of actively contributing through poster presentations, committee work, and the mentorship program. These experiences have truly been a gift. Being a MOLN member has helped me grow as a nursing leader while building strong, meaningful connections with incredible colleagues. I really enjoy being able to learn more and give back to the nursing profession in this way.

Do you have a favorite MOLN memory so far?

I’ve had the privilege of presenting my work at the past two Fall Conferences through poster presentations, which has been an incredible experience. Sharing my passion for creative projects in student nurse internships and workforce development is something I truly enjoy. Connecting with others who share a commitment to advancing nursing practice is deeply rewarding, and I find it inspiring to exchange ideas on innovative approaches that drive meaningful results. Every conversation reminds me how powerful collaboration can be in shaping the future of our profession. A few years ago, I would have never dreamt that I would be saying that I love doing poster presentations!

How do you cope with the demanding aspects of your career?

I strongly believe in the power of gratitude and paying it forward. During challenging times, I lean even more into these practices. These help me stay grounded and focused on what truly matters. Building genuine connections with those I serve is at the heart of my work, and it’s what keeps me moving forward. In our profession, there are so many incredible people that you never have to look far to find something, or someone to appreciate.

Outside of work, I cherish time with my husband Jeff, our wonderful adult kids Christian and Lauren, and our cockatiel Darwin. Summers are especially meaningful, while we spend weekends at our family lake cabin, caring for the home my parents built with their own hands.

Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by nurse leaders and colleagues who lead with purpose and compassion. Those who embrace innovation and mentorship remind me of the impact we can have when we invest in others. My most impactful mentor in leadership was my father. Although he was an engineering leader in the milling industry many years ago, I will never forget the heartfelt way his employees spoke of his personalized genuine care, incredible knowledge, and unwavering support. All the qualities that made him an outstanding father also made him a fantastic leader. His example taught me that true leadership is rooted in authenticity, empathy, and a commitment to helping others succeed. These are all the values I strive to infuse into my daily work.

What is something that not many people know about you?

One of the proudest legacy items in my career is creating the Tender Steps Infant Adoption Support Program. Inspired by my family’s own adoption journey, this program was designed to provide informed, compassionate support for both birth families and adoptive families during that critical transition period. It also equipped healthcare teams to better understand the nuances of adoption, bridge care gaps, and deliver adoption-informed, family-centered care. Knowing that this work has helped so many families start their journey on the strongest possible foundation is deeply rewarding.
